Nonverbal communication is the process of sending and receiving messages and ideas through gestures, postures, limbs, spatial relationships, artefacts (physical appearance, personal items and clothing), facial expressions, inflections and tone of voice without using verbal language. Communicating nonverbally is an inherent process as decoding thoughts, feelings and emotions are of essence of the human condition. Various research in the field of neurobiology and psychology has affirmed this ideology and illustrated that human beings are more dependent on nonverbal cues than verbal cues in order to effectively express and communicate meaning and emotion. It is, therefore, imperative that we have a thorough understanding and control over nonverbal gestures to enhance overall impact power, negotiating skills, influencing tactics and for carrying out productive, fruitful business.
